Sonic Scrims

An interactive textile installation that celebrates the vibrant music scene of Glasgow through a tactile and auditory play experience.

In collaboration with visual designer Erin Thomson. Exhibiting at Six Foot Gallery, Glasgow, from 29th August 2023 until 12th September 2023.

This installation is designed to engage participants in a multi-sensory exploration of Glasgow's rich musical heritage. Emphasising its diverse genres, iconic venues, and legendary artists. The work encourages play, disrupting the usual ‘do not touch’ gallery signage.

‘Threads United’ and ‘Everyone’s a DJ’ in action.

‘Sonic Scrims’ includes two experiences. These are;

Threads United - This interactive experience is played by two people. One person touches the green fabric, the other person touches the blue fabric. When the two people make skin contact with each other sounds will play. When the participants move their hands around the fabrics, and onto different areas of the body, there will be changes in the soundscape.

Everyone’s a DJ - This interactive experience can be played by one or two people. The person/people will hold the metal clip of the black cable in one hand, or attach the metal clip to a ring (must have skin contact). They can mix sounds by touching a combination of the three fabrics. Playing with the note and duration of a sound by touching different areas of the fabric.

Clips of opening night interactions can be seen on my Instagram, here.
